01 September 2006. A glimpse at some of the work currently being progressed in the Engine Shed. Also the Network Rail rail grinder is stabled at Yeovil Junction once again.

Over half the Engine Shed floor has now been concreted by 'JC' and his band of 'willing' helpers. This was made possible by the generous help through donations by our members. A further donation of Floor Paint has been made by one of our volunteers and a start has been made to seal the surface. Unfortunately this task involves moving stuff around so it will take a little while longer before it is complete!

This side of the Shed needs to have the wooden sleepers and bullhead rail replaced by concrete sleepers and flat bottom rail before the concreting can be finished. This is a major task, involving lots of money and volunteer time. However the photo also shows 'Pectin' whose annual boiler inspection has recently been signed off and the Oyster brake van which is in for a cosmetic 'brush-up'.

The London & South Western Gunpowder van is being signwritten as the last stage in its renovation whilst the ICI tanker (on the left) is having bitumen paint applied to the chassis. The barrel already has been undercoated.

The replacment bearers for the ICI tanker await installation. One more end section has to be cut.

The Network Rail grinder is seen undergoing maintenance. South West Trains send one empty stock working in each direction daily via Yeovil Pen Mill, Castle Cary and Westbury to/from Salisbury to maintain route knowledge and this is signalled whilst in the background a Weymouth to Bristol Temple Meads train consisting of 150 and 158 units can be see.

The driver of 158879 gives up the token for the single line from Yeovil Pen Mill.
