An Update on Pectin's overhaul - 2 June 2004

Thanks to the long hours being put in by a dedicated team of volunteers, the overhaul of Pectin is proceeding well. The hydraulic test of the boiler has been passed and then engine is now being put back together to allow a live steam test to take place. It is hoped to have the engine in steam in July, although passenger duties will not commence until a period of testing has been completed.

Have a look back at the start of the overhaul on 3 January by clicking here.

The boiler has been totally stripped of paint and received a fresh coat (not only of paint but of Rockwool!!).

Much of the platework, particularly in the cab, has been replaced with new.

New tubes and a new regulator box have been fitted. Replacement pistons have been manufactured and are being machined.

The underside has been totally cleaned and repainted

15 June sees the tank replaced over the boiler.

Saturday 19 June 2004 - The old Gal is lit once again. Pete and Roger are looking pleased with themselves (as well they might!!). A steam test for the boiler inspector awaits.

Quite a lot more still to do but the overhaul is now in the home straight.

Following a successful steam test on Monday 21 June, Pectin is given a test run on Friday 25 June. Looking forward to the loco being back in service soon!!

4 July 2004. The testing today included running with a freight train. It is hoped to have Pectin back in passenger service on 1 August.
