Some more of the projects currently underway at Yeovil Railway Centre. |
01 November 2011 A temporary siding is being laid to accomodate the Port of Bristol wagons. This will create some breathing space until time and money becomes available to install a permanent solution. |
The plan is to empty the siding behind, slew the track and, once the panels are completed(!) move 6 or 7 wagons onto the temporary siding. |
06 November 2011 The Wilderness siding is emptied to allow the the temporary siding to be completed. |
A scene that will not be able to be repeated after March 2012 after the signalbox is demolished as part of the resignalling scheme. |
The Ruston takes the wagons away.... |
....grunts up the bank.... |
....the final wagons make their way into the loop to be stabled. |
08 November 2011 The Wilderness siding has been broken and a slew is made. |
13 November 2011 The final rail is being lifted (one end at a time) into the waiting chairs which will then be screwed down. (Photo courtesy Brian Haigh) |

As soon as the Ruston departs the siding is broken. |
The Wilderness siding is soon restored.... |
....and its time to put the coaches back. Ron's Fowler collects the final three. |
Sun is going down by the time the stock is sorted! |
01 November 2011 Part of the fencing has been renewed by Roger and Terry. Now shows up the rest which will receive attention in the next few months with completion in Spring 2012. |
01 November 2011 The supply pipe to the Water Column (grey coloured against the fence) from the Water Tower froze (for the first time) during Winter 2010/11. This pipe was installed during the Centre's early days and now is being re-routed underground. Plenty of other pipes have been found making hand digging essential! |
Section of original pipe still in use. |
06 November 2011. Part of the brick and concrete pad unfortunately has had to be broken to complete the trench. |
19 November 2011 Not sure what the caption should be! John (No 1) and Dave hard at work and not asleep! |
Ah! Unscrewing the pipe in readiness for rerouting. |
John (No 2) is at the other end of the trench trying to achieve a similar task. |
20 November 2011 Job done and tested (and it does run downhill!) - packing needed under the pipe and trench to be refilled. Good work! |
