6 July 2003 Cathedrals Express to Exeter

The first Cathedrals Express (Steam Dreams) to run to Exeter out and back via the Southern Route ran on Sunday 6 July 2003.

The train started from Clapham Junction and ran steam hauled to Exeter. The engine used was Standard 73096 and is seen arriving at Yeovil Junction.

The train departs having taken water.

Soon after, Deltic 9016 Gordon Highlander arrived at Platform 3 for a planned layover to allow a South West Trains service to overtake.

A normal Train Day was also operated using Peckett 'Pectin'and GWR Toad brakevan. We were pleased to welcome back our good friends from 6000 Loco Association for their annual visit.

The Deltic made its way to Platform 2, ready for departure to Exeter to pick up the train.

73096 made its way back light engine from Exeter and is seen after watering and turning.

73096 at Platform 3. D9016 with train at Platform 3 (with a swarm of passengers, some of which were awaiting a further service train and must have been rather bemused!!)

After the Deltic was detached, it ran forward towards Salisbury. Steam was re-attached and took the excursion back to Clapham Junction.
