7 October 2018

Yeovil Railway Centre and Isle of Wight Railway have been discussing the transfer of the National Railway Museum owned 1912 - London Brighton and South Coast Railway 5-plank wagon (3537). Following a public consultation this was agreed between all parties as the wagon had previously been part of the coal wagon fleet on the Island and would 'fit' in with the other similar wagons already part of their representative train. As part of the consultation the other two National Railway Museum wagons (LSWR Gunpowder and ICI Nitric Acid tanker) were transferred to the ownership of Yeovil Railway Centre whilst the LBSCR wagon is now in the ownership of IOW Railway and has been moved there.

To facilitate the move, it was necessary to get the wagon to the 'upside' at Yeovil Junction for collection. Here are a few photos of the operation.

7 October 2018 saw a number of volunteers arrive at 6.30am to move the wagon.

JCB at the front and dumper at rear (to provide any additional braking).

Round the bend (we must be!) and down towards our entrance bridge.

All successfuly completed.

Rolling off the special sledge.

Waiting for collection.
