9 July 2012
was the turn of 35028 'Clan Line' to venture to Yeovil with the intention of reaching Weymouth.

But first on the scene was a top and tailed Network Rail train. 37682 waits to work the train back to Salisbury. The line beyond Yeovil Junction still being closed following Friday/Saturday's downpours. Many roads in Dorset and Devon also still affected.

At the other end of the train is 37409 'Lord Hinton'. Clive Seaton has passed on this snippet of interesting information. 'Lord Hinton was the brother of John Hinton the dentist in Yeovil at Penn Hill. I used to visit him in the 50,s and 60,s If you google him you will see he was an eminent engineer and chairman of the CEGB, hope this is of some interest.'
Certainly is Clive! As you suggested I find that Christopher Hinton, later Lord Hinton was responsible for designing Calder Hall Nuclear Power Station at the behest of Prime Minister Winston Churchill in 1952. Quite fitting that DRS have named a loco after him as they began by transporting low level radioactive waste from around the UKs Nuclear Power Stations for reprocessing at Sellafield.

66070 then arrived from Westbury. This loco would later take the train to Yeovil Pen Mill, run round and on to Weymouth. Fortunately about an hour before the train arrived the line from Yeovil Pen Mill to Dorchester West was reopened after a bridge was passed fit by a diver!

'Who nicked the signalbox' might be the question our Network Rail friends might be discussing! For over a hundred years Yeovil Junction ('East', 'A' or latterly no suffix) signalbox was to be seen immediately behind the two heads.

A fine sight as 35028 'Clan Line' runs in alongside Platform 3.

Admiration from Clive!

And for the second day in a row, a lot of passengers watch the turning.
