Yeovil Junction signalbox has at last been demolished in the early hours of Sunday 10 June 2012 during an engineers possession (occupation) lasting 5 hours. Opened in 1908 as Yeovil Junction East, renamed in 1949 as Yeovil Junction 'A', Closed 12 March 2012. |
The box is seen in full working order on 14 February 2009 with the driver of 34067 'Tangmere' giving up the token for the Yeovil Pen Mill branch.
This method of working was used until closure with the main line being controlled by tokenless block since the line was largely singled in the 1960's. (Photo courtesy Roland Groom) |
By 7 June 2012 the windows had been removed and other bits were being stripped out. |
9 June 2012 - 159009 leads the 07.45 Salisbury to Exeter St Davids passes the remains. |
10 June 2012 - The signalbox has gone, the area tidied and you really would not know it had existed. (Photo courtesy Bob Tucker) |
A 5 lever ground frame (released by Basingstoke WOE panel) has been installed to allow the use of the up sidings. Yeovil Up Siding Ground Frame can just be seen behind the lamppost. (Photo courtesy Bob Tucker) |
