Working underneath the turntable is not the most pleasant of tasks. A number of rivets have corroded heads and require replacement. Burning off the head and then the remainder can be punched out with the aid of the air compressor.

An interesting survivor on site is the remains of a Great Western Railway milepost. This marks the mileage from London Paddington via Melksham and is alongside (we suspect) the original route of the broad gauge Clifton Maybank branch (now a track). Our running line is slightly to the north and higher. The numerals were missing but could be easily read and replaced many years ago. A spruce up is now being undertaken.
