10 September 2019 The two year overhaul of the War Department brakevan has been completed and is now available for traffic. The vehicle was built in 1942 to a Southern Railway design (1018) and was purchased from RAF Chilmark in 1995 on closure of the base. Much of the outside wood has had to be renewed although the original has been retained where still sound. A full overhaul inside the cabin and the chassis and running gear has also taken place. A 'well done' to the wagon restoration team.
