After a long delay of some 2 years See Here the station as part of the new town Cranbrook (between Whimple and Pinhoe) opened. The delays were caused by the discovery of a large sewer pipe, also difficulties with the proximity of a level crossing. The latter was solved by the introduction of a new 65mph speed restriction in the 'up' direction to ensure that the barriers are lowered for an appropriate length of time. This will not be an issue for most trains as they call at Cranbrook and will not have reached 65mph on restarting.
