FGW Crew Training - Exeter to Yeovil Junction to Castle Cary

14 October 2013
In an unusual move, two First Great Western 153 units ran as 5Z11 from Exeter St Davids (20.42) passing Yeovil Junction (22.18) and terminating at Castle Cary (22.41). A return journey ran as 5Z12 (Yeovil Junction at 23.08). Not sure of the reason but possibly route knowledge for crews or clearance for the units as Whiteball Tunnel (north of Exeter St Davids on the Taunton route) is due to be closed for a number of weeks in the early part of 2014.

In a rather poor photo the two units are seen passing through Yeovil Junction on the outward run.

In a further route knowledge exercise in connection with the closure of Exeter-Taunton line from Saturday 18 January 2014 to Sunday 9 February 2014, FGW 153329 passes through Pinhoe at speed en-route to Castle Cary.
