15 February 2011 Recently confirmed is the resignalling of the Gillingham - Feniton section of the Waterloo - Exeter route to be controlled from Basingstoke. This will result in the abolition of all signalboxes with early retirements and probable redundancies amongst the signalling staff. Yeovil Junction signalbox will be demolished (it is in a poor state of repair anyway) and scenes like this with the Balfour Beatty drain cleaning train in the siding behind the semaphore gantry being confined to history from April 2012. Exact plans are not yet known although most points at Yeovil Junction will be motorised with extra track circuiting installed in the down sidings. Also we believe extra block signals are to be installed to improve the capacity of the line. |
