27 October 2009 Installation of the second Shed Road into the Engine Shed has commenced.

8 October 2009 view showing preparation of the trackbed.

Other initial work has included moving cabins and stores.....

....and extending and slightly moving a gate.

27 October 2009. Concrete sleepers and flatbottom rail is being used for the first stage.

Soon the existing line will be disconnected, slewed to join the new road. The existing line will then then relaid in concrete sleepers (at least within the Engine Shed) and a new connection made into the running line.

29 October 2009 progress.

A new gate to improve security has been installed alongside the Engine Shed.

01 November 2009 another short panel laid.

Now across the gateway - to be infilled to maintain access when essential.

06 November 2009 - first rolling stock on new line. The National Railway Museum ICI Nitric Acid tanker has been restored in the Shed but marooned until now!.

Yes these two tracks WILL meet!!

Part dismantled Number 1 road.

Last look at Number 1 road in the Shed before being relaid with concrete sleepers. Fishplates already removed.

Look back towards the Shed.

08 November 2009 - Number 1 road track removed. Chairs removed shortly afterwards. Wooden sleepers to be reused on main running line.

Beginning to slew track to enable last piece to be installed.

It never ceases to amaze how flexible rails (even flat bottom) can be!.

10 November 2009. After further work yesterday, one section of rail remains to be cut and joined.

The final fishplate is installed.

Looking towards the Shed.

The Ruston is the first engine on the second Shed Road, pushing a Fowler locomotive chassis.

Collecting the ICI Nitric Acid tanker.

Shunting under way.

The Ruston enters the Engine Shed for the first time to deposit the Fowler chassis.

Ron Weston's Fowler propels Peckett steam engine 'Pectin' towards the Shed.

With a loud blast or three from the horn, the engines enter the Shed.

After a period of outside storage the engines are now back in the Shed. A lot more work on the track (jacking, packing and making a crossing by the gate still have to be undertaken - not mentioning the relaying and connecting of the Number 1 Road!!

Whacking the scalpings into shape!!.

Another load of scalpings delivered!
