A variety of young and not-so-young help is employed!

Once the old sleeper has been removed and a replacement instered, the job of packing, particularly under the chairs (which the rail sits in) is carried out.

With its attachments this machine can drill holes in the sleepers, tighten screws to keep the chairs in place and also undo and tighten fishplates (which join rails together) bolts.

Another area is being tackled - under a walkway - to inspect and replace sleepers as required.
