Hertfordshire Railtours 'The Desert Mule' excursion 9 June 2002

This train ran from London Paddington to Westbury with Class 56, Westbury to Yeovil Junction with Class 59, Yeovil Junction to Eastleigh with Class 58 and Eastleigh to London Victoria with Class 73.

Class 58 58033 arrives light engine from Eastleigh at Platform 3

The very wet conditions highlight the white sole bar. Note the old spelling of E W & S on this locomotive. All Class 58s are due to be withdrawn in the next few months.

After running back into the down sidings the 12 coach excursion is seen approaching from Yeovil Pen Mill.

Class 59206 'Pride of Ferrybridge' runs into Platform 3. Later the Class 58 will attach to the rear of the excursion to take the train to Salisbury and Southampton. Amazingly the rain which had poured down all morning stopped just as the train arrived! Something to do with the righteous I expect.........
