17 July 2007 Some of the outdoor work being undertaken (and a few 159s thrown in for good measure). |
Having completed the paintwork on the Acid Tanker, Pete turns his attention to the Transfer Shed gates which haven't seen a lick of paint since they were built! |
Repainting of the turntable's handrails etc is almost complete. Ben, James, Daniel and Matt have been largely responsible for undertaking this task at weekends. | |
Roger and John have unearthed two lengths of rail (a 60ft and a 45ft) from the Wilderness area. During the singling of the main Salisbury-Exeter line this land was a dumping ground with temporary tracks laid to facilitate the unloading of redundant track. Many sleepers have been reclaimed (some ok and some rotted) together with track chairs, bolts etc. |
Our diggers seem to have lost something! |
The next length or rail can be seen. Not good quality after being buried for 40 years or so but can be used in a siding once cleaned up. |
After further clearance the two rails can be clearly seen.. |
Some rails have already been recovered from the Wilderness Crossing area but there are more to be unearthed. |
A feature of railway life in recent times is the regular stabling of a pair of 159s (with the occasional visit of a third). 159017 leads the empty stock around 3.15pm |
At the rear is a freshly overhauled and repainted 159108. In the 1960s this track was the down fast through line. 159010 stands in Platform 1 with the 3.20pm to Waterloo. This was previously the bay for the shuttle from Yeovil Town/Pen Mill and is now a through line (altered 26/03/1975) |
