Coronovirus Update The closure of our site to visitors due to the Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in the Yeovil Railway Centre suffering an estimated loss of income in excess of £25,000. For our small organisation this has been a huge blow. Our volunteers have continued to do on-site work during the closure including refurbishment of the wagons. In addition essential trackwork has been undertaken to ensure that we have a safe railway over which to operate. Other site work has included enhancements to the display area in the Transfer Shed and work has progressed throughout the whole of our site such as fencing. To finance the ongoing work we have had to draw down deeper into our reserves. Our steam locomotive Pectin has had £28,500 spent on its boiler overhaul to date and a further estimated £5,500 is required to finally get its 10 year boiler certificate. It is essential that Pectin is ready for operation in 2021 as our present steam locomotive Lord Fisher has to be withdrawn by mid-2022 at the latest for its 10 year overhaul. In addition we still have to pay for our rent, insurance, electric, water and site security. The most pressing need for us at Yeovil is for funds to ensure we can continue to pay the bills and finance ongoing site work, ready to regularly reopen our site in 2021 offering our visitors a safe environment and hopefully seeing Pectin returned to service and making a start on the new toilet block. This can only be achieved by your generosity, please help as its the only way we can survive and build a secure future at the Yeovil Railway Centre.
